I have had a long-standing policy about pens. I decided that I didn’t ever need to buy any. Because I work in education, I have attended enough conferences where exhibitors passed out pens. I also have also received a fair number of promotional pens from years of attending state or county fairs. Pens get handed out at parades and they get handed out at my work. I save whatever I receive and I use them. Hence, no need to buy pens.
My long-standing policy didn’t just bend a little, it totally caved in yesterday when I bought more than one pen I spotted while picking up some school supplies for Goodnight.
They are all the same, making the sign for ‘I Love You.’ Because I am fluent in American Sign Language, I bought all of them from that store. They are a bit thick for grasping, but . . . I don’t care. Lotsa love in my pen holder on my desk at home now!
My sign language ’I Love You’ pens reminded me of the photo my blog buddy Carol posted in May. Scroll to the bottom of her post. I wish I had a crossing light that did that!

Those are so cool!
Lisa: Target dollar bins.
Great pens, G.G.!
My sad news is that the light that showed the ASL “I love you” now has more bulbs missing and I don’t know what it currently says. I should take another photo. Maybe you can see some message in it.
Carol: I can already guess what they did. Are the lights out to the thumb?
I can’t remember. I’ll have to go back and check. I’ll report back.
Carol: I’ll be curious . . .
Ah .. a memory floated back to me of seeing a play called Children of a Lesser God at The Mermaid Theatre in London in 1981. Trevor Eve (English Actor) learn American Sign Language for that. Elizabeth Quinn (American deaf actress) was in the other lead part. American Sign Language was shown in the programme.
Dancing: Yup! Here in the US, Phyllis Frelich won a Tony award for her stage performance and Marlee Matlin won an Academy Award for her performance in the movie version. Elizabeth Quinn replaced Phyllis Frelich, and after Quinn, Sesame Street’s Linda Bove. All deaf and very talented actresses!
Those are too cool! And certainly worth breaking your pen policy.
Trav: Yup! And I sent a txt to my sis and she broke down and bought some too.
I did a drive-by today. It looks like all of the finger lights are out except for the pinkie. Maybe it’s a random light outage? I’m going to choose to believe that the “I love you” part was intentional.
Carol: Okay, the pinkie is harmless. I think the I Love You was intentional amd fun! The pinkie is just the letter I and probably bulbs out. Whew!
I have a feeling there’s something I’m missing here. (And I think that’s okay!)
