Because I am on a roll with posting groupings of old photos, I wanted to add this photo as well. I think it’s my favorite grouping, but it might be because I’ve already set this group in a frame and have it hung.
It shows four generations of First Communion photos beginning with Gr8, then Gram, then Angel, and ending with Little Gr8 (GN). Three girls wore the same veil – passed down by my mother. I didn’t wear the same veil because the one I wore was a cousin tradition at the time.
I already wrote a longer post about the pix, but I for the sake of order in my blog, I wanted to post them again near the high school pix and bride photos.
What a tradition of wearing the veil. Your story is beautiful and thank you for sharing it. I could feel the hot chocolate spill and your amazing power to not lash out. What a gal you are.
Diane: Yes . . . the hot chocolate! There was no one close enough to my knitting when I got back to even suspect. I don’t know that I have any amazing power to not lash out. What I do know is that I have a very combustible temper and because of it, I work very hard at assessing things before I light the fuse. The ‘Hundred Year Rule’ helps too.
I just went through your recent posts, and I enjoyed the generational photos. Four very beautiful women. I love how your family allows important events to be so meaningful via the passing down of treasured articles of clothing and/or through the personal creation of the pieces. I know that the life events are important in more ways than your clothing, but each article of clothing, each photograph of a family member, helps to keep the event alive for a long time.
Thank you for sharing the photos!
Carol: I liked having things passed down. Even back then I appreciated the connection, but even more so now. There was a school dress too, that stood the test of time. Funny, I dont’ recall my brothers having anything passed down . . . Another reason to call my mother for a chat.
