A Healthy Mixture of Old and Young

As interesting as it is to pour over old census records and old photographs of great-great-grand-relatives and study the region of their origin and how the political borders changed . . . . . .

(photo below is new addition of great-grandmother and a grandfather, and I have the names of one set of great-greats now and a city and county of birth!)

. . . . . . but there is still a brand new little guy and he is almost two weeks old now!

GN and I are off to do some shopping to put together a fun baby gift.  I understand he is ‘teddybear-less.’

  1. Beautiful baby …. I think the teddybear-less state will not last for long.

I also love the older photograph and, not sure if they are related, but can see a resemblance between the new arrival and the lady wearing the flowery top in the photograph.

Dancing: You’re right about the teddybear-less state. We fixed it! He is not a blood-relative of anyone in the old photo, but her disposition looks cheerier than the other two women, doesn’t it?

      • Yes he looks a beautiful baby.

I think that the old photos always show people looking less cheerful as I guess they had to hold a pose for a long time for the camera.

Dancing: I think you are right about the long pose. My grandmother described my great-grandmother as ‘not quick-tempered.’ (unlike my great-grandfather)

He’s so cute!!!! Funny comment above.. I was thinking the woman in the white blouse looks like you!

Carol E: The woman in the white blouse would be one of my great-aunts. I can see my cheek and jaw features in her, but they are in combo with features from my mother’s side of the family. Fun to read your input because it’s from objective observation. Thanks for telling me!

That’s a wonderful photo of your relatives. I would love to hear the stories about it.

And the little guy… he looks wise beyond his two weeks. And so cute!

Carol: I don’t know that much about the photo . . . like what’s with the two guys on the outsides? They have the same outfit. I have no idea what kind of ‘uniform’ that would be. They are husbands of the two women in the front row. The women in front would be my great-aunts. The woman in the back is my great-grandmother and next to her is my paternal grandfather. Grams didn’t say much about this side of the family. Her mother-in-law lived with them for twenty years and was . . . um rather nosey, I guess. Grams told me where she hid the deed to the house so her MIL couldn’t find it . . . I’ll never forget her clever hiding spot!

All kinds of options for hiding the deed are going through my mind!
