Pomp and Middle School Circumstance

Well . . . we’ve gotten one more of the events on our calendar checked off.  It was actually one of the bigger events we’ve had to attend.  GN graduated from her middle school last night.  I somehow managed not to cry.  I kept telling myself “It’s just eighth grade,”  but that’s not the part that would have made me cry, anyway.  It’s just that she looked so much like her mother last night.

I’m posting some photos today because I’ll need them when the shock of her going to high school sets in.

Waiting for her turn in the processional.  Time to unveil the results of the shoe rehearsal the girls had . . .

Recessional . . .

The graduation dress with tasteful graduation frivolous ornamentation . . .

Family party at nearby establishment . . .  First Little Guy (from previous post) attended with his grandmother and dad.  He stayed very close to GN during the party.  Second Little Guy and his mom were resting comfortably at home after having been discharged from the hospital earlier in the day.

The party was fun.  I considered it a spectator sport and took my seat so I could chat with family, but watch the graduates. First, the boys gathered around the jukebox to pick a song.  They chose Santa Claus is Coming to Town.  It made everyone laugh, no one had to dance to it, and most of the kids sang along.

Then the girls gathered around the jukebox to pick their song.  I think GN was in charge of one round of music, because she came bouncing up to me to ask for some music money.  Note that the four-inch heels were replaced with flip-flops and the curls that took me nearly two hours to put had already danced themselves into a more ‘relaxed’ look . . .

After the graduation, after the reception, after the family party, on the walk back to our car, GN exclaimed,  “Gram!  I got some serious cash tonight!!!”

Some things don’t change, do they?  Best wishes, Goodnight.

Is that the dress you made for her? Gorgeous! She looks so grown up.

I’m glad that GN got to do a shoe rehearsal. I would probably break my neck in heels that high.

    Congratulations to GN and you!

Carol: No . . . it is not the dress I intended to sew for her. I made good progress on the dress, but I traded in myn sewing time for time with my mother. The dress can wait, time with my mother is more important. The one I was sewing was a beautiful gold brocade with small flowers. The fabric is lovely. I even bought turquoise tulle for the underskirt. It will keep.

  3. She looks wonderful – love the dress and the shoes.

As for shoe rehearsals – tell me about it – I wore some to Miss Dancing’s wedding but had a pair of flat ones for later!

Dancing: I liked her dress, too. It was the first one she tried on! I spotted it and asked her to try it. She wasn’t impressed, but consoled me by giving it a try. She bounced out of the dressing room loving it. I couldn’t believe the price when it was rung up. It was on sale!!!

As for the shoes . . . I don’t even start with heels anymore. I go right to the comfy flat shoes.

  4. That should have read “I wore some heeled shoes” …

I used to wear heels regularly to work …. how on earth did I manage it?

    Congratulations young Lady!

High school can go by in a blur, or it can drag itself out and feel like it’s never going to end. When it feels like it’s going too fast, close your eyes and take a breath to put things back into focus. When it feels like it’s dragging, close your eyes and savor the moments.

    Have a tremendous summer!
