“The Road to the Super Bowl” – Super Scarf #33

I have completed another Super Scarf for the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee’s Super Scarf Project.

For this scarf, I decided to give a shout out to INDOT – the Indianapolis Department of Transportation.  I can’t even begin to imagine what it must take to keep traffic moving on any given day, let alone the increased traffic brought on by an event like the Super Bowl.

There are seven little cars appliqued onto the scarf with space left for the official patch to be sewn on when it arrives in Indianapolis.  There are no cars around the neck because I wanted to minimize the bulk there.  The wheels I made have some dimension to them.

I arrived at the car shape by using the shadow of my ‘Chevro-sleigh’, sans the rear-mount spare.  That way, though I may never get to drive to a Super Bowl, a little replica of my car will be there!  ;-)

Here’s a close-up of the cars.

I don’t know if all roads lead to the Super Bowl, but I know that I-65, I-69, I-70 and I-74 do.  Well . . . the interstates and a winning season for the two teams that get to go, eh?!!

I just checked the Super Scarf Project website and the total shows 5,030 scarves collected to date.  I check in often now, because the count is slowly going up thanks to everyone who has been diligently clicking away.  Click the link I provided to see photos and stories about others who have been making so many scarves.  It’s inspirational to me.

Happy knitting!

  1. Now for me, in the UK, that could be a FLYOVER scarf!

    Love it.

So what’s your total contribution to the 5,000 so far? And how many more do you think you’ll do?

      Hey there Trav:
I see you figured out what number that scarf was, but as for how many I will knit . . . . I didn’t commit to a specific number. When I decided to participate, I thought I would knit until I got tired of blue and white. that hasn’t happened yet. Then I thought I would knit until I got bored. That hasn’t happened yet, either. Then I thought maybe I would quit when I ran out of ideas. Um . . . still have some that haven’ been knit. So I guess I’ll keep on knitting. The deadline for the project is this year, so we’ll see what happens.

I am by no means the person who has contributed the most scarves. I read about a woman who has already contributed 200. (probably more by now.) I think that’s amazing! The local Indiana knitters heard about the project much earlier than I did. It was launched very early in 2010. I want to say January or February. I didn’t hear about it until August, I was behind the curve ball by several months.

But I’ve enjoyed it all so far. I have a few more fun things planned, so we’ll see what kind of time I get, what with work and Goodnight.
